MBChB
I began the first steps towards my career in medicine when I was awarded a scholarship to Elizabethtown College, PA, USA. With an educational background in the arts, I naturally began a degree in Communications. After two short weeks I realised I was not pushing myself to reach my full academic potential. Spending four years learning skills I felt I already had, seemed a wasted opportunity. I pleaded my case to the faculty and sat exams to prove my ability, before finally being accepted to change degrees and study Biology, Allied Health. This 4-year course was challenging as sciences were not my natural forte, however they did stimulate my innate curiosity and, as a result, I flourished achieving a 92% average in the Grade Point Average system across the four years, and a position teaching anatomy on cadavers.
At this point, whilst I had recognised my passion for medicine, I still had not considered being a doctor. I had subconsciously subscribed to the typical propaganda amongst medical school applicants that you must have your heart set on being a doctor from the womb or you’d never make it! As such, I found myself in a Clinical Information Manager job, “on the side-lines” in A&E in New Jersey, USA assisting with medical notes and procedures, watching the action but never truly being involved. Similarly, when I returned to England I became a Healthcare Assistant in a Coronary Care Unit. I have seen patient consultations from several different points of view and learned from these experiences.
It was only on my return to the UK after meeting my incredible wife, that I was made to confront the fact that I was, once again, not pushing myself to reach my full potential. I had a degree in Biology, several jobs in healthcare and 3000+ hours of voluntary experience to make a strong medical school application. Five years later, I graduated from Keele University School of Medicine with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) degree.
My passion outside of hormone replacement therapy is Paediatrics. Much the same as The Men’s Health Clinic, the Paediatric teams I have worked in are supportive, a pleasure to work in, and the patient demographic work with you to achieve lasting improvements to quality of life. With that said, children are not always on the same page as you, and you cannot simply do a scan or throw a medication at the problem. Often a treatment plan requires thinking outside the box about what is practically achievable, and individualising care to help each patient. This is the skill set I bring to my practice in hormone replacement therapy.
In my free time I am a keen jiujitsu practitioner, competing regularly, my garage is set up to rival most commercial gyms! I enjoy paddle-boarding, hiking, rugby and football. I make it my priority to stay up to date with the latest research on lifestyle changes to improve health and athletic performance. My number one priority however, is spending time with my perfect wife Lulu and our brand-new baby girl (brought to you by The Men’s Health Clinic!)
What I can offer patients in addition to medical knowledge is first-hand experience. Not only am I a patient of The Men’s Health Clinic myself, I tend to “guinea pig” most lifestyle changes on myself for better or worse – carnivore, keto, paleo, vegetarian, cold-plunge, sauna, fasting – you name it, I’ve probably tried it!
Overall, I aim to be the best possible version of myself in order to be of most service to those around me. I am excited to work with like-minded colleagues and patients.
For a man to conquer himself is the first and noblest of all victories. – Plato
I want to help give people the tools to reach the pinnacle of their potential.
