Your TRT Journey

From Your Initial Contact With Us & Then Throughout Your Journey To Optimal Hormonal Health, We Will Guide & Support You Every Step Of The Way

We pride ourselves in offering a personalised service that caters to your individual needs.  We work with you to help you achieve hormonal balance and provide you with realistic expectations, so that you can feel like you again.

We appreciate that initial costs can seem high in comparison to other ‘providers’, however, we firmly believe that our high level of service is second to none and simply cannot be compared.  This is a lifelong partnership on a lifelong journey,  choosing who you work with on your road to optimal hormonal health can be one of the most important decisions that you will ever make.

When you first make contact with The Men’s Health Clinic, the path that you follow with us will typically start from one of three routes.  These are summarised below but further information can be found on the TRT Consultation page of our website.

For a detailed breakdown on medication costs, please see our How Much Does TRT Cost? page.

ROUTE 1

No Diagnosis of Testosterone Deficiency

If you believe that you may be suffering with symptoms and signs of low testosterone but have had no formal diagnosis, you would typically start by booking a 60-Minute New Patient Consultation with us.

At this consultation, we will take a detailed medical and social history from you, perform a physical examination, take comprehensive blood tests and have an in-depth discussion with you regarding testosterone deficiency, Testosterone Replacement Therapy, your expectations and your suitability for therapy.  Please note that if this is the first diagnostic blood test you’ve had to assess your hormonal status, you would need a SECOND confirmatory Total Testosterone test, ideally four weeks later, to confirm the diagnosis.

At the end of your consultation (Dorset Clinic Only) you will also have the opportunity to use our InBody 770 medical grade bioelectrical impedance scanner.  This allows us to record and track data relating to your physical health, as well as providing you with a benchmark to work from.  Repeat scanning will also form part of your annual face to face consultations back in clinic if you end up commencing treatment with us.

60-Minute New Patient Consultation:

£280 + Clinic Blood Test (Dorset)

£240 + Clinic Blood Test (Warwickshire)

Once your blood results have been received, Dr Stevens will contact you with further recommendations on how to proceed.  If your diagnostic and confirmatory blood results have indicated that you are a candidate for Testosterone Replacement Therapy, he will invite you to return to clinic for a 30-minute Follow Up TRT Consultation to commence treatment.  This can often be done within one week of your second, confirmatory test.

At this follow up consultation, your clinician will review your blood results with you and discuss your treatment options.  You will then sign your consent form and commence treatment as indicated.

Where appropriate, we will go through safe preparation of your medications with you and, if you will be self-injecting, gently guide you through safe and correct injection technique so that you leave the consultation room with confidence, ready to embark on your journey.

We are always happy to support you in approaching your GP to have your ongoing blood tests and medications organised under the NHS where possible. A letter requesting shared-care with your GP can be issued at the end of your consultation if required.

30-Minute Commence Treatment Consultation:

£160 + Medication (Dorset)

£140 + Medication (Warwickshire)

ROUTE 2

Confirmed Testosterone Deficiency but Not on Treatment

This route is for anyone who has been concerned about their hormone levels and has already taken the proactive step of having blood tests taken in order to obtain a confirmed diagnosis of testosterone deficiency.  You may also choose to take this route if you have not yet had a diagnosis (as Route 1), but live a long distance from clinic and would like to avoid making two trips down to us in order to commence treatment.

If this is the case, your first step would be to email us a copy of any blood results you may have had carried out previously, along with a brief history about yourself and your current symptoms.  Dr Stevens will review these and, after confirming that there are no obvious reversible causes for your low testosterone levels, he will advise whether or not you are potentially a candidate for treatment through our clinic.

In order for this process to be completed, you would need to have had two separate diagnostic bloods tests demonstrating low testosterone, one of which must have been taken within the last three months and include all of the tests listed in the ‘TRT COMPLETE’ or ‘TRT COMPLETE PLUS’ blood panels detailed on the Order Your Blood Test page of our website.  We would be happy to organise these tests for you if required.  If your current results do not include all of the necessary blood parameters, Dr Stevens may recommend that you organise further more comprehensive testing, prior to confirming your suitability for treatment..

As soon as Dr Stevens has reviewed your results and confirms that you are a suitable candidate for treatment with us, he would invite you to book a 90-Minute New Patient Consultation in clinic, and treatment will be commenced on the day.  At this consultation, your clinician will take a detailed medical and social history from you, thoroughly review your blood results, perform a physical examination and have a in-depth discussion with you about testosterone deficiency, Testosterone Replacement Therapy and your expectations.  You will have a discussion about your treatment options with us, sign your consent forms and commence treatment as agreed.

ROUTE 3

Transferring Care – NHS or Private

If you are already on Testosterone Replacement Therapy and are wishing to transfer your care from either the NHS or another private TRT clinic or provider, please email us with your latest blood results (along with your original diagnostic ones if you have them) and a brief outline of your history and treatment to date for Dr Stevens to review.  You will then be invited to book a 90-Minute New Patient Consultation in clinic to commence treatment under our care.

Original diagnostic blood test results and/or medical correspondence confirming your original diagnosis MUST be brought to your consultation, along with comprehensive blood test results from within the last three months that include all of the tests listed in the ‘TRT COMPLETE’ blood panel on the Order Your Blood Test page of our website.  If you do not have up to date blood test results, we can either organise these for you in advance of your consultation, or they can be taken in clinic during your appointment.  If you are already on injections, these tests will need to be taken in a trough, (ideally on the day of your next injection, but BEFORE it).

There is no need to stop the treatment you are on prior to seeing us.  If you are on Sustanon, we just ask that you omit your last dose immediately prior to attending your consultation, so that you are due your next injection.  If you are on Nebido (Testosterone Undeconate), time your consultation for when your next injection is due.  If you are on a testosterone cream or gel, simply do not apply the topical treatment on the day of your consultation.

Where appropriate, we will go through safe preparation of your medications with you, and gently guide you through safe and correct injection technique so that you leave the consultation room with confidence, ready to embark on your journey.

The Rest of Your Journey…

After commencing treatment with us, you will have regular blood tests and follow up reviews with your clinician to ensure the continued safe and effective prescribing of your Testosterone Replacement Therapy.  The timeline for these routine reviews is as follows:

Week 4-5

Four weeks after commencing treatment you will need to have your bloods drawn so that we can see how your body is responding to therapy.  This test must be done in a trough (on the day of your injection, but BEFORE it).  These results enable us to see how your body is responding to therapy and allows for a potential alteration to your starting protocol, prior to you achieving hormonal stability.  Everybody is unique and responds to treatment differently, so it is imperative that this blood test is taken at this stage in your journey so that your protocol can be adjusted as necessary.

We recommend the ‘TRT PROTOCOL’ blood test which can be ordered from the Order Your Blood Test page of our website, however your GP may agree to organising these tests for you.  If this is the case, please ensure that they include all of the tests listed.  If you would prefer, you can book a 15-minute ‘Clinical’ appointment and have your blood test taken in clinic (additional charge applies).  You will be emailed your results in 2-3 days.

When you have your results, you will have a 15-minute telephone consultation with your clinician to discuss how you are feeling and your corresponding blood results.  Please ensure that you email your results across to us prior to your call if we have not organised these for you through our partner lab.

Telephone consultations are usually booked in clinic at the end of your New Patient consultation.  Alternatively, you can book yourself in online or call us on 01202 091593.  Payment is taken at the time of booking.

15-Minute Telephone Consultation:

£50 (Dorset & Warwickshire)

Week 10-11

Ten weeks after commencing treatment you will need to have your bloods drawn again so that we can see where you are now that your levels are stable.  You will then be formally reviewed by your clinician with a 30-minute Follow Up TRT Consultation.  This consultation will include a discussion about your well-being, any side effects and issuing of your standard three month medications/prescriptions.

For this follow up, you have the option of coming into clinic and having your bloods drawn as part of the consultation or, if more convenient, you may have this consultation conducted via video call.

If you choose the video consultation option, you would need to have arranged a ‘TRT REVIEW’ blood test which can be ordered from the Order Your Blood Test page of our website, or request that your GP organises these blood tests for you.  You would then just need to email your results over to us, along with your Skype ID, prior to your consultation.

All consultations can be booked in clinic, online, or by calling us on 01202 091593.  If you are booking a video consultation, payment will be taken at the time of booking.

30-Minute Follow Up TRT Consultation:

£160 + Clinic Blood Test if Required (Dorset)

£140 + Clinic Blood Test if Required (Warwickshire)

6 Monthly Reviews

After your ‘ten week’ blood test and consultation, you will have a formal TRT follow up just once every six months.  At this consultation, your clinician will review your current protocol, discuss any health concerns that you might have and formulate an action plan so that your ongoing expectations are both realistic and achievable.  At the end of the consultation you will be issued with your standard three month medications/prescriptions (your next three-month prescription can be requested via telephone or email).

Again, this consultation can be carried out in clinic or by video call, however please bear in mind that you MUST have a face to face consultation in clinic at least once every 12 months, so that a physical examination can be carried out as appropriate.  This ensures safe and effective practice.  Once every 12 months you would also have another opportunity to use our InBody 770 body composition scanner (Dorset Clinic Only) so that we can continue to track and record data relating to your on-going physical health.

If you come into clinic for this follow up, you can have your bloods taken as part of the consultation.  If you choose the video call option, you would need to have already organised a ‘TRT REVIEW’ or ‘TRT COMPLETE’ (if annual appointment) blood test, which can be ordered from the Order Your Blood Test page of our website, or request that your GP organises these blood tests for you.  You would then just email your results over to us, along with your Skype ID, prior to your consultation.

All consultations can be booked in clinic, online or by calling us on 01202 091593. Please advise if you are booking a video consultation, payment will be taken at the time of booking.

Interim Protocol Changes

Occasionally, additional blood tests are required when protocol adjustments have been made outside of your routine reviews.  We will advise you on the most suitable test to purchase via the Order Your Blood Test page of our website.  Alternatively, these blood tests can be taken in clinic, you would simply need to book in a 15-minute ‘Clinical’ appointment online or by calling us on 01202 091593 (additional charge applies).  You will be emailed your results within 2-3 days.

Once we have your results, your clinician will review them and advise accordingly by email.  If you would prefer to have a telephone discussion with us regarding your results, please book in a 15-minute ‘Telephone Consultation’ online or by calling us on the above number.  Payment is taken for all telephone consultations at the time of booking.
