Low Sex Drive? Erection Problems? Fed Up? Tired All The Time? Lacking Confidence? The list goes on…

| By: Dr Robert Stevens

Most of my patients are fed up, plain and simple.  Not just with their symptoms, but also with the negative impact their symptoms have on their lives.  They have often been to their GP and been palmed off with platitudes of ‘it’s part of getting older’, ‘it happens to us all’.  Some men have even managed to convince their GP’s to check their testosterone level, which may have come back low, only to then be told it is probably normal for them.  Some men have paid online blood testing laboratories to check their testosterone levels because their GP’s have been unreceptive to the idea that low testosterone may be an issue.  Others have resorted to self-medicating through frustration and are now at an impasse.

We already know having a healthy testosterone level is associated with improved overall health, so the benefits of optimising testosterone levels should be considered more important than just improving symptoms of low sex drive, erectile dysfunction, decreased energy levels and confidence.

Men are simple creatures with simple needs.  A low sex drive & poor erectile function doesn’t just affect your sex life, it can affect your overall confidence and satisfaction levels.  This can have a knock on effect on relationships with sexual partners, friends, family and wider.  Improving libido and erectile function can indirectly improve all areas of life.

Lack of energy and confidence can be a direct result of low testosterone, they don’t call anabolic steroids ‘Performance Enhancing Drugs’ for nothing.  The aim of Testosterone Replacement Therapy is to optimise your testosterone levels so you can feel better in yourself, not make you super human, just make you the best version of yourself.

Men are also frustrated and disillusioned with the lack of support provided by the NHS whose primary goal appears to be demonstrating short term cost effective changes, ignoring the long term benefits from other therapies such as Testosterone Replacement Therapy.  They treat the condition not the patient.  I very much like the  quote, ‘The good physician treats the disease; the great physician treats the patient who has the disease’ – William Osler.

They are more concerned with lowering your cholesterol by shoving a statin down your throat, never mind the damage it does to your liver, or the other horrible side effects you endure to get a quantitative reduction in your cholesterol level.  Why not address the cause rather than treat just the number?

Testosterone Replacement Therapy uses bioidentical hormones to optimise your testosterone levels.  It can’t take away the stresses and strains of modern day life, but it can help you be you again!!
